Scranton: The Electric City

So Friday night Keith and I were driving down to Manassas, VA and our route took us through...you guessed it! Scranton, PA. Although it was dark, dreary, and raining, I couldn't help cheering for glee as we entered Lackawanna Co. and saw signs for the Anthracite Musuem. And since we needed gas, we got off at an exit that said it led to gas. Well, either we or the sign were mistaken, as it actually led us...downtown Scranton, past a lovely mural proclaiming Scranton The Electric City. We proceeding to get a little lost, but we saw several sites featured in the credit sequence of The Office, as well as the Steamtown Mall. Alas the weather prevented picture taking, but I thought I would share my little adventure with you, all the same.

I heard that the Office Convention was going on in Scranton at that time. Did the city seem particularly festive to you? It's become like a Mecca for sitcom fans. And I hear that the cast members are treated like The Beatles when they're there. It's amazing that of all the cities in the United States, that Scranton would be given that level of fame...

It's 15 hours and 46 minutes from Scranton, PA to Monroe, IA.

Was Monroe, IA based on SanAntonio being one of our points? I think we may need to revamp our road trip destination...
